Matteo Ricci, SJ was an Italian Jesuit priest and one of the founding figures of the Jesuit China missions.
The secret of Ricci’s success was his ability to go beyond cultural barriers and befriend people of another race and religion. His friend Feng Yingjing's remark brings out the spirit of this great missionary. “He treated the affairs of our fathers as if they were his own and our fathers in turn treated his as if they were ours.”
