Faculty Honored at Annual Convocation
Posted 10/23/2019 04:22PM

On Saturday, October 19, the Fordham Prep faculty and staff celebrated their annual Convocation, to honor long-serving members and welcome new ones to their ranks.

Mrs. Mary Anne Salvatorelli was awarded her Bene Merenti medal for 20 years of dedicated service to Fordham Prep.  Her tenure at Fordham Prep began in the fall of 1998 and since then, she has been a dedicated teacher and mentor to a generation of Prep students.  “Mrs. Sal” current teaches English including electives in poetry and writing, and helps to organize the Senior Prom. Of her, faculty colleague, Mr. Matt DiStefano, said “The students feel very comfortable coming to (her).  (She) provides cura personalis for all of them.”

During the evening, four members of the faculty were awarded tenure upon completing five years of service to the Fordham Prep community.  They are Mr. Ryan Gorup ‘07 (Mathematics), Ms. Claire McCarrick (Mathematics), Dr. Craig Smith (Religious Studies), and Mr. Michael Weldon ‘86 (Visual and Performing Arts).  Each were granted the award after completing a comprehensive program of professional development and supervision as well as participation in the school’s Ignatian Formation Program.  All faculty awarded tenure have had their vocation as an Ignatian educator shaped both inside and outside of the classroom.

Finally, Fordham Prep welcomed three new members of the faculty and staff for this academic year, Ms. Danielli Antoniou (Technology), Mr. Joe Lorenz, SJ (Modern Languages/Religious Studies), and Mr. Brian Pinter (Religious Studies).

The Fordham Prep faculty is a dedicated group of men and women who work tirelessly for their students as classroom teachers, coaches, moderators, mentors, counselors, and retreat leaders.  They are experts in their subject matter and in their craft. 94% hold post-graduate degrees and 10% hold a PhD or EdD. The average tenure of a faculty member at Fordham Prep is 22 years and the average length of service to Fordham Prep of the faculty is 18 years.

We thank those honored and all Fordham Prep faculty and staff for their dedicated service to the school and its Jesuit mission.  Here’s to a great year!
