Hunger Awareness Month Opens with Freshman Luncheon

The Annual Freshman Luncheon at Fordham Prep is sponsored by Campus Ministry's Hunger Awareness Committee and kicks off Hunger Awareness month. At the luncheon held in the main gym, freshmen are separated into three distinct groups representing the world's population and eat accordingly. Thus a few freshman have a delicious hot meal and are waited upon by seniors, some participate in a pasta buffet, and over half sit on the floor and have bread and water.

In the time they gather and sit for grace, over 400 children will have died around the world as a result of hunger related causes. Ryan '19 and Luke '19, co-directors of this year's Hunger Awareness Committee, introduce the freshmen to the goals of educating the FP community on hunger and the annual food drive which this year is striving to collect at least 26,000 food items for food pantries and soup kitchens in our surrounding neighborhoods.

The food drive is also a way to participate in the Great Ignatian Challenge where we will be competing against local area Jesuit High Schools to see which school can raise the greatest amount of food per student.
