On Saturday, May 5, 2018, over 150 Prep alumni, administrators, coaches, students, parents, and many friends and family of the inductees gathered for the Fourth Annual Football Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony. They enjoyed a cocktail hour and dinner at Maestro’s Caterers in the Bronx.
The night included an introduction of the newest head coach, Pat Deane '88, and speeches from current player, George Gaspar and Gridiron Club Chairwoman, Gabriella Gaspar.
Attendees then turned their attention to honoring the 2018 Class of Inductees which included a couple of doctors, lawyers, accomplished college football athletes, U.S. military veterans, members of the financial community, business owners, and even a pair of Jesuits with ties to the Prep and the football program.
The 2018 inductees were: Richard Cea, MD ’55, Michael Corcoran ’61, Thomas Courtney ’42, John Cullen ’75, Rev. Patrick Francis Dealy, SJ, Ralph Dengler ’84, Thomas Finneran ’59, Rev. James T. Griffin, SJ, Brendan Higgins ’94, Larry Miggins ’43, Robert Oswald ’57, Kevin Plunkett ’72, Joseph Reynolds ’73, Matthew Rinklin ’01, Vinnie Roman ’86, Jim Rowen ’82, Greg Santomero ’86, Sean Smith ’95 and John Vrionis ’64.
The 2018 class of inductees represents not only some of the best athletes ever to play football for Fordham Prep, it also represents the strong values and faith shared by all Prep alumni – especially its football alumni. As successful as each of these men were or are in their chosen professions, their success has been overshadowed by their service to the Prep and the communities in which they live. While they are exemplary members of the Prep Community, they are only the third class of inductees to the Prep’s Football Hall of Fame. The Football Hall of Fame Nominating Committee happily warned that there are many similar candidates who will surely be honored with induction in future years.
