During this program, students will spend time on a collaborative retreat experience with Boston College High School and Loyola students, stay with host families while attending daily classes and have an opportunity to participate in a safari. Focusing on spiritual, academic and personal growth, students will be asked to step out of their comfort zones and truly embrace everything the culture of Tanzania has to offer.
Host School: Loyola High School (Co-ed Jesuit school)
Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Length of Stay: Two weeks
Number of Students: 4-5 Fordham Prep students and one Prep faculty member will join a group of 12 students and 2 faculty members from Boston College High School.
Language Requirements: None
Grade Level: Current Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply.
Host Family Experience: Because cultural immersion is such an important part of an exchange program, and in an effort to keep costs reasonable, students will stay with host families during this exchange program.
Program Dates: 2 weeks in February (tentatively Feb 8-22)
Students will travel during February vacation and miss an additional 5 days of school . (Students will be responsible for meeting with teachers to create a personal plan for assignments and class time missed while in Tanzania). Dates will be finalized in October.
Program Cost: approx. $2,550 to $3,300
Cost includes tuition, board, meals, travel within Tanzania, and activity fees. Expenses that are not included are round-trip air travel (approximately $1200-1500), personal items and services such as passport fees, phone calls and personal spending money. Final cost is determined by number of participant. Financial assistance is available.
