The first strategy in the Prep's recently published Athletics Strategic Plan states our intention to

Upgrade and expand athletic facilities to reflect the excellence our teams aspire to while providing adequate space for all teams, increasing the ability for all teams to provide strength and conditioning training,To this end, we are proud to announce plans to create a new Health and Wellness Center. The renovation and expansion of the Intramural Gym will create a best-in-class 8,070 square foot facility that reflects the Prep's commitment to health, wellness and fraternity.

Designed to resonate with an urban, tech savvy generation, the space will be evocative of popular fitness clubs with youthful touches reminiscent of popular athletic labels. It will feature a new mezzanine that creates a two-story training environment for cardio, weights and conditioning while enhancing the flexibility and functionality of the double height volume for individual and team workouts and intramural sports. The high performing materials, lighting and systems utilized will be fresh, sustainable and sleek, projecting a future model for spaces at Fordham Prep.

The proposed renovated gym will include state-of-the-art systems and stations designed to enhance physical performance, health and overall wellness. It will include:

competition mats for wrestling
two practice hoops for basketball
retractable batting cages for baseball
volleyball net
shot put circles for track and field
plyometric training station, including box jumps
multiple weight stations
ropes for high-intensity interval training
cardio equipment, including treadmills, bikes and rowing machines
wellness activities such as yoga and mindfulness exercises

In this expanded space more students and athletes will be able to benefit from all that a new gym has to offer. In addition, a new strength/conditioning coach will be hired to guide students through conditioning exercises and proper use of the equipment.

HOW THE INTRAMURAL GYM IS USED TODAY

These photos address today's reality for our students who use the existing Intramural Gym for PE classes, recreationally, and for team conditioning and work-out sessions. The new center will allow us to maximize space for both equipment and activity, upgrade machinery and apparatus, and enhance lighting and ventilation.

The Athletics Challenge

The Prep is completely renovating the Intramural Gym this summer and creating a new best-in-class 8,070 square foot Fitness & Wellness Center. This center will feature a two-level gym with cardio and strength stations, as well as additional open spaces, allowing multiple teams to work together on their strength and conditioning while individual students follow their own workout schedules.

Each of the Prep's 16 sports programs have contributed to the project through the Athletics Challenge. The winners of the Athletics Challenge are the Football Team (total amount raised) and the Squash Team (highest participation). The teams will celebrate their accomplishment with a party in the new renovated space when it opens this September.
