Today’s Reflection: Stay Awake to God’s Presence
Readings: Isaiah 2:1–5; Romans 13:11–14; Matthew 24:37–44

On this First Sunday of Advent in Year A, Isaiah gives us a vision of all nations streaming toward God’s peace, and Jesus calls us to “stay awake,” ready for God’s quiet arrival in our lives. Paul urges us to “throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” Today, may we begin Advent with renewed attentiveness—open to God’s presence in ordinary interactions, moments of patience, and small acts of hope. Advent starts not with haste, but with awareness.

Today’s Reflection: A Shelter of Light
Readings: Isaiah 4:2–6; Matthew 8:5–11

Isaiah speaks of God’s protective presence—a “canopy” of glory and shelter for God’s people. In the Gospel, the centurion shows remarkable faith in Jesus’ healing power. As this Advent week begins, may we trust that God provides the light and protection we need, especially when life feels uncertain or overwhelming.

Today’s Reflection: A Vision of Peace
Readings: Isaiah 11:1–10; Luke 10:21–24

Isaiah’s image of the shoot from Jesse—ushering in wisdom, understanding, and peace—reminds us of God’s long, patient work of healing. Jesus rejoices in the “childlike” who can see God’s presence with clarity. Today, may we trust that peace is possible: in our families, in our school, and in the world God dreams into being.

Today’s Reflection: God Provides in Abundance
Readings: Isaiah 25:6–10a; Matthew 15:29–37

Isaiah promises a rich feast prepared by God, and Jesus feeds the crowds with compassion. On the feast of St. Francis Xavier—missionary, companion of Ignatius—we remember that God equips each of us for mission. May we notice the “small multiplications” today: encouragement, generosity, and the strength God provides for our work.

Today’s Reflection: Foundations That Hold
Readings: Isaiah 26:1–6; Matthew 7:21, 24–27

Isaiah proclaims a strong city founded on trust in God. Jesus tells us to build our lives on rock, not sand. Advent is a chance to examine what supports us—faith, relationships, prayer, community—and what foundations we may need to strengthen. May we anchor our lives in what endures.

Today’s Reflection: Eyes Opened to Hope
Readings: Isaiah 29:17–24; Matthew 9:27–31

Isaiah foretells a time when the deaf will hear and the blind will see. In the Gospel, two blind men approach Jesus with faith that transforms them. Advent invites us to bring our own needs and hopes to God with the same trust. As we end the week, may our eyes be opened to God already at work around us.

Today’s Reflection: Compassion That Sends Us Forth
Readings: Isaiah 30:19–21, 23–26; Matthew 9:35–10:1, 5a, 6–8

God promises guidance- “your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Jesus looks on the crowd with compassion and sends His disciples to heal and bring hope. Advent reminds us that God’s compassion is not passive. Today, may we listen for where God is nudging us to respond with kindness and courage.

Today’s Reflection: Prepare the Way
Readings: Isaiah 11:1–10; Romans 15:4–9; Matthew 3:1–12

John the Baptist cries out, “Prepare the way of the Lord.” Isaiah dreams of a world where justice and peace are possible because God’s Spirit rests upon the Messiah. Advent invites us to clear away the inner noise and distractions that keep us from recognizing Christ’s presence. May we prepare a space in our hearts where hope can truly take root.

Today’s Reflection: Full of Grace
Readings: Genesis 3:9–15, 20; Ephesians 1:3–6, 11–12; Luke 1:26–38

Mary’s “yes” opens the door for God’s saving love to enter the world in a new way. Her trust models what it means to surrender to grace even when the path ahead is unclear. Today, may we ask for the courage to say our own small “yes” to God’s invitations, trusting that grace will meet us wherever we are.

Today’s Reflection: Comfort My People
Readings: Isaiah 40:1–11; Matthew 18:12–14

God speaks tenderly, “Comfort, give comfort to my people,” reminding us that divine compassion is stronger than fear. Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep shows a God who refuses to give up on anyone. Today, may we become instruments of comfort to those who feel forgotten or overwhelmed, letting them know they are held in God’s care.

Today’s Reflection: Strength for the Weary
Readings: Isaiah 40:25–31; Matthew 11:28–30

Isaiah promises that those who hope in the Lord “will run and not grow weary,” reminding us that God renews strength in surprising ways. Jesus promises rest to the burdened, inviting us to place our worries in His hands. Today, may we breathe deeply and trust that God is sustaining us even when we feel stretched thin.

Today’s Reflection: Wisdom in Our Midst
Readings: Isaiah 41:13–20; Matthew 11:11–15

God takes us by the hand and says, “Fear not, I will help you.” Jesus praises John the Baptist as a witness who listened deeply to God’s voice. Advent reminds us that wisdom often comes quietly, through moments of prayer, reflection, and honest conversation. Today, may we trust the gentle ways God guides us through the challenges of our lives.

Today’s Reflection: A Mother’s Nearness
Readings: Zechariah 2:14–17; Luke 1:26–38

Today we Celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Our Lady appears as a mother close to the poor and forgotten, reminding us that God draws near to the humble. Mary’s presence reassures us that God’s love is tender, protective, and attentive to the needs of every person. Today, may we reflect her compassion by offering care to those who may feel overlooked or alone.

Today’s Reflection: Light in the Darkness
Readings: Sirach 48:1–4, 9–11; Matthew 17:9a, 10–13

On the feast of St. Lucy—whose name means “light”—we remember that God shines through the faithful even in difficult times. Jesus points to John the Baptist as a light who helped prepare hearts for God’s coming. Today, may we allow our own lives to reflect God’s light through kindness, integrity, and hope-filled action.

Today’s Reflection: Rejoice in Hope
Readings: Isaiah 35:1–6a, 10; James 5:7–10; Matthew 11:2–11

Gaudete Sunday calls us to rejoice because the Lord is near. Isaiah imagines deserts blooming and the weak strengthened, revealing God’s transforming love. Even when joy feels distant, Advent teaches us that joy grows from trust, not circumstances. Today, may we welcome even a small glimmer of hope as a sign of God’s presence.

Today’s Reflection: Authority Rooted in Mercy
Readings: Numbers 24:2–7, 15–17a; Matthew 21:23–27

Balaam blesses God’s people despite pressure to do otherwise, revealing God’s surprising faithfulness. Jesus, questioned about His authority, remains rooted in truth and compassion. Advent invites us to use whatever authority we have—with students, colleagues, or family—with humility and mercy. Today, may our leadership reflect God’s justice and gentleness.

Today’s Reflection: Faith Beyond Words
Readings: Zephaniah 3:1–2, 9–13; Matthew 21:28–32

Jesus challenges us to let our actions speak louder than our promises. Zephaniah describes a humble people who seek refuge in God rather than in their own strength. Advent asks us to cultivate sincerity—aligning our choices with the faith we profess. Today, may our actions reflect the love we hope to share.

Today’s Reflection: Wisdom From on High
Readings: Genesis 49:2, 8–10; Matthew 1:1–17

As the O Antiphons begin, we invoke Christ as Wisdom, the One who guides history. Today’s genealogy reminds us that God works through imperfect, ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. Advent encourages us to trust that our own stories—messy and unfinished—are part of God’s greater plan. Today, may we ask Christ for the wisdom to see our lives with hope.

Today’s Reflection: God With Us
Readings: Jeremiah 23:5–8; Matthew 1:18–25

Joseph awakens to God’s surprising plan and courageously welcomes Jesus, “Emmanuel—God with us.” God’s nearness does not remove our challenges, but transforms how we face them. Today, may we recognize the quiet ways God is accompanying us—in courage, in peace, and in the love of others.

Today’s Reflection: Nothing Is Impossible With God
Readings: Judges 13:2–7, 24–25a; Luke 1:5–25

Both Manoah’s family and Zechariah’s are asked to believe what seems impossible. Their stories remind us that God often works slowly, quietly, and through unexpected means. Advent encourages us to trust that God is at work even in areas of life where we feel stuck. Today, may we hold onto hope with renewed courage.

Today’s Reflection: Be It Done Unto Me
Readings: Isaiah 7:10–14; Luke 1:26–38

Mary’s “yes” opens the world to God’s saving love. Her trust challenges us to welcome God’s invitations even when the future feels uncertain. Advent invites us to respond with humility and courage to whatever God is asking of us today. May Mary’s faith inspire us to trust that God is already at work in our lives.

Today’s Reflection: Christ Our Emmanuel    
Readings: Isaiah 7:10–14; Romans 1:1–7; Matthew 1:18–24

Joseph receives the message that Jesus will be “Emmanuel—God with us,” a promise that changes everything. Advent reminds us that God enters our world not from afar, but from within our daily lives and challenges. As Christmas draws near, may we welcome Christ with openness, trust, and renewed compassion for others.

Today’s Reflection: My Soul Proclaims the Greatness of the Lord
Readings: 1 Samuel 1:24–28; Luke 1:46–56

Mary’s Magnificat overflows with gratitude and trust, echoing Hannah’s ancient song. Her joy reminds us that praise shifts our focus back to God’s generosity. Today, may we cultivate gratitude in small ways, letting our lives become a quiet hymn of thanksgiving.

Today’s Reflection: The Dawn From on High
Readings: Malachi 3:1–4, 23–24; Luke 1:57–66

John the Baptist’s birth brings rejoicing and renewed hope to his family. Malachi promises that God is sending a messenger to prepare hearts for the Lord. As the light of Christmas approaches, may we welcome God’s dawn—bringing clarity, hope, and new beginnings into our lives.
