Service Requirements &
Opportunities at Fordham Prep
Service is an essential expression of life at Fordham Prep. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition, we believe that an authentic education forms not only the mind but also the heart, preparing young men to recognize God's presence in all people and respond generously to the needs of the world.
Inspired by the call to become men for and with others, our students encounter communities beyond their own, reflect on the causes of injustice, and discover that service is more than volunteering, it is a lifelong commitment to faith that does justice. Through meaningful relationships, reflection, and action, students grow in compassion, solidarity, and a deeper understanding of their responsibility to build a more just and hopeful world.
Service Requirements
At Fordham Prep, Christian service is an integral part of a Jesuit education. Our four-year program challenges students to put their faith into action by serving others, reflecting on their experiences, and growing as men for and with others. Each year builds on the last, helping students develop greater empathy, responsibility, and a lifelong commitment to justice and service
Service Immersion Trips
In addition to the four-year Christian Service Program, students have the opportunity to participate in service immersion experiences during school breaks and the summer. These week-long experiences invite students to live in solidarity with communities facing economic and social challenges while engaging in meaningful service such as home repair, community development, education, environmental projects, and outreach to children, older adults, and individuals experiencing poverty.
Through prayer, reflection, and shared community life, students deepen their understanding of faith, justice, and what it means to be men for and with others.
Social Justice Initiatives
"The mission of the Society of Jesus today is the service of faith, of which the promotion of justice is an absolute requirement.” (General Congregation 32 of the Society of Jesus".
Responding to this mission Fordham Prep's social justice initiatives aim to form students who are committed to justice by inviting them to assess critical issues of justice through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian spirituality.
The Assistant Director of Campus Ministry for Social Justice works closely with a student-led social justice committee to plan events and programs for the community.
