Merit Scholarships & Special Award Opportunities at Fordham Prep
Merit Scholarships for Incoming Freshman
Fordham Prep awards a number of Merit Based Scholarships to incoming freshmen each year. The process is often extremely competitive.
Merit Scholarship Eligibility
In order to be considered for a Merit Based Scholarship an applicant must have:

Excellent Grades - An average of at least 90 in all core subjects in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade

An Excellent Score on the High School Placement Test (HSPT)*
- Participation in the Ram for a Day Shadow Day Program - Not required, but strongly encouraged.
More About the HSPT
Note: *The HSPT is the exclusive exam for Fordham Prep's Merit Scholarship Program. If you do not take the HSPT, you will not be considered for a merit based scholarship. However, you can be considered for admission via the TACHS, ISEE, or SSAT.
Applicants are allowed to take the HSPT once. You may not register for the exam at multiple locations on multiple dates.
Fordham Prep also accepts HSPT results from other schools, including Regis High School, Xavier High School, Iona Prep, and Loyola School. You must indicate on your application to Fordham Prep where you are taking the HSPT in order for us to receive your results.
Special Award Opportunities
All Special Awards are given during the admissions process to incoming students.
Gonzaga Award
Aloysius Gonzaga is an Italian Jesuit known for his courage in serving the sick and his dedication to the education of young students. In his name, we honor the sacrifice of your parents and first responders everywhere with this award.
Eligibility: Sons of First Responders (active-duty police officers, firefighters, and paramedics) admitted to Fordham Prep are eligible for a yearly monetary award of up to $5,000.
Seton Award
The Saint Elizabeth Seton Scholarship is named in honor of New York native Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton who was an educator and founder of the country’s parochial school system.
Eligibility: Sons of Catholic School Educators (elementary, middle, and high schools) admitted to Fordham Prep are eligible for a yearly monetary award of up to $5,000.
McMahon Award
This award is named in honor of Martin Thomas McMahon, Class of 1855, and recipient of the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration, for his actions at the Battle of White Oak Swamp.
Eligibility: Sons of Veterans admitted to Fordham Prep are eligible for a yearly monetary award of up to $5,000.
George Jackson Award
The George Jackson Award is designed for first-generation college-bound students of all backgrounds and is made possible through the generosity of donors to the George Jackson Initiative.
Eligibility: This highly selective award identifies candidates through a comprehensive review of academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and personal promise. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview as part of the process. Awardees are eligible for a yearly monetary award of up to $5,000 and will take part in the George Jackson Mentorship Program.
