College Counseling
at Fordham Prep
Our program is designed to help students and families navigate the intricacies of their post-secondary aspirations through individualized planning with the college search and application processes.
Our focus is helping students find the best fit for their future needs and goals. Cura personalis, 'care of the individual', is a hallmark of Jesuit education and is a cornerstone of the College Counseling program. Each student at the Prep is aided in his growth by the caring guidance of his counselor, where it’s our mission to find a post-secondary opportunity that is an appropriate fit for each senior.
Through the relationships we build with our students, we thoughtfully work together to shape and authentically communicate his narrative to colleges—ensuring that his search is as individual as he is and reflects our philosophy of best fit rather than prestige alone with outstanding outcomes across higher education.

School Counseling: Laying the Groundwork in Freshman and Sophomore Year
Fordham Prep Freshman and Sophomores will spend time with their dedicated school counselors focusing on academic and developmental needs through group classes and individual meetings.
School counseling provides the groundwork for college preparedness in the following ways:
- Comprehensive College and Career Readiness Series: Students are guided to use research-based, on-line tools to assess their personality, interests, strengths and values and how these relate to college and the world of work.
- Standardized Testing Prep: school counselors explain the process and help students understand how to prepare for and the results of the tests they take in the lower years, including the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, PSAT/NMSQT and the Pre-ACT.
- Elevated Communication and Connection: The School Counseling and College Counseling teams forge a strong relationship and mission toward forming the 'whole person' and helping them find meaning and clarity today and in their future planning.

Seniors, and when available, juniors, are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to interact with officers from the various universities.
Our college counselors forge relationships with admission officers in order to best advocate for individual students throughout the application process. They are affiliated members of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling and the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling.
