Turkey Bowl Goes Virtual

The cancelation of the fall football season brought with it fears that the annual Turkey Bowl match up between the Rams and their rivals, the Knights of Xavier High School, would not take place.  While the teams will not be able to meet on the field, the competitions has gone virtual.  The Rams and the the Knights will square off in the first ever Virtual Turkey Bowl held the week of Thanksgiving.

Fordham Prep President Fr. Christopher Devron, SJ, Athletic Director Anthony Kurtin, Alumni Engagement Manager John Murtagh '05, and Sydney Assile '23 will face off against their Xavier counterparts online in a game of Madden NFL 20.

Mr. Kurtin and Mr. Murtagh '05 review the offensive playbook during practice earlier this week.

Xavier High School will air the game on their livestream platform.  The first half will be broadcast on November 24 and the second half will be broadcast on November 25.

While the winner of this game will not be awarded the President's Trophy, they will have the pleasure of seeing the opposing team's president pose for a picture in the football uniform of the victors.

Mr. Kurtin remarked, "I know that both communities would rather be competing against each other on the field this Thanksgiving.  We are grateful that we can continue this longstanding tradition, although a little differently and, most importantly, safely this year.  We look forward to a fun experience and, of course, beating Xavier!"

Fr. Devron and Sydney practice getting in their reps before the big game.

Also concluding Thanksgiving week is the fifth annual Turkey Bowl Challenge between young alumni of the Prep and Xavier.  Those in the classes of 2001-2020 can make a gift and help us beat Xavier multiple times in the same week!  Support the Rams now and Beat the Knights!
