Cameron Young ’15 Wins The Players Championship

Cameron Young, Fordham Prep Class of 2015, captured the biggest victory of his career to date on March 15, 2026, winning the The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Often referred to as golf’s “fifth major,” the prestigious PGA Tour event featured a dramatic Sunday finish as Young closed with a bogey-free 4-under 68 to finish at 13-under-par and earn a one-shot victory over Matt Fitzpatrick.

The defining moments came on the final two holes. Young birdied the iconic Island Green 17th to take control. On the 18th, he unleashed a 375-yard drive, the longest ever recorded on that hole in the ShotLink era. He then hit what he later called “the best shot of my life” to set up a comfortable par and secure the victory, along with the $4.5 million champion’s prize.

The victory moved Young to a career-high No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking and further solidified his place among the game’s elite.

Before his rise on the PGA Tour, Young built one of the most accomplished golf careers in Fordham Prep history. From 2011–2015 he was a four-year varsity player and team captain, winning four New York State Catholic Championships and three New York Federation Tournament championships while leading the Rams to two New York City titles.

After graduating from Fordham Prep, Young starred at Wake Forest  before turning professional in 2019. He earned his PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021 after back-to-back victories at the AdventHealth Championship and the Evans Scholars Invitational. The following season, he was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

Known for his elite ball-striking, Young recorded seven runner-up finishes early in his career before breaking through for his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship in 2025. His six-shot victory there made him the 1,000th unique winner in PGA Tour history.

Young has also delivered impressive performances on golf’s biggest stages, including runner-up at the The Open Championship and a third-place finish at the PGA Championship. He has posted top-10 finishes in all four major championships, shot a historic 59 at the Travelers Championship in 2024, and represented Team USA in both the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup.

Young’s breakthrough at The Players Championship marks another milestone in an already remarkable career. For the Fordham Prep community, his continued success is a source of tremendous pride as he carries the Rams’ tradition of excellence from the Bronx to the highest level of professional golf.
