The NY Archdiocesan Championships proved to be an exciting for many Prep runners who rose to the occasion. While the Varsity began to unfurl their true strength, the Freshman took a strong third in their sectional meet- - and were leading the scoring after the running events. Besides an impressive list of personal records, 12 championship medals were won.

Track Notes

-         There’s not enough room to fit all the praise deserved by so many great performances. Nonetheless, we’ll try:

-         JUST-Incredible (I know its corny) – co –MIPS Justin Bienkowski and Justin Chin, each with 4 second PRs in the 800

-         Millrose Bound- congrats to Rey Mendez for becoming the first Prepster to run in the prestigious Millrose High School Mile

-         “Ironman” award to Gordon Lewis for his 55m and 800m relay heats and finals, all run within 45 minutes, scoring twice. Also, all Juniors and Seniors who did the SAT/ACH-Sectional double are deserving Ironman status

-         Record Stretching Award- to Steve Yoon for his extension of his Frosh triple jump record, and of course for his Sectional victory.

-         “Stepping up”- were those who scored in the Championship Meet- certainly something to be proud of – Smith, Bienkowski, Guerrero, Verlezza, Cavanagh, Alemany; Dengler, Chin, Fitzsimons, Weitzman, Lewis(2x), Yoon(2x), Pinzon, and Irizarry.

-         Not least – were the many PRs that reclassified some runners as true competitors: Gleeson, Rosado, Casey, and Macalisang were among those that turned heads this weekend.
