Indoor Track Newsletter                                                                      March 6 & 12, 1993

While the “Blizzard of “93” prevented a talented squad from competing at the Nationals, the snow-postponed Jesuits carried on its 36-year tradition, with Fordham winning its 13th Indoor title (Xavier has 15) and 4th consecutive title.  In addition, Rey Mendez became Fordham Prep’s 1st-ever New York State Champion when he convincingly took the 1000 Meter Run. Congrats all around for a week of 55 medals, and a season of 244!

Track Notes

-To keep tradition, the Jesuit MIP goes to all who hit double PRs. Here’s the roll call:

                        Gerry Guerrero (200, 400)

                        Ash Saunders    (200, 400)

                        James Rausse    (200, 400)

                        Chris Ketcham  (200, 400)

                        Pete Canale       (200, 400)

                        Rob Weitzman (200x2)

Other sterling races came from Seniors Alemany and Go, while we got some great jumping from newcomers Bailey and Rush. In all, a fine team effort all around kept our perfect record in the 1990’s intact.

- Finally, an official congratulations goes out to Rey Mendez for his superb double at the State Champs. Rey’s next major challenge will be at the Arcadia/Foot Locker Invitational in Los Angeles on April 10th. We all wish him continued success.
