Cross Country Newsletter ’90                                                                Saturday, September 22

Neither rain nor sleet nor muddy course could keep the toughest of the Fordham Prep harriers from their successful Opening Day, 1990.  On Saturday, September 22 the talented Prep Cross Country team began its 1990 campaign at the Regis Invitational Meet at Van Cortlandt Park.  Due to extreme weather conditions, the normal VCP courses were altered and shortened to prevent injury.  Approximate conversion factors are listed below.

XC Notes

-          As every Prep competitor won a medal this week, our early season total starts at 28 – the first step toward breaking last year’s record setting count of 184 medals.

-          Next weeks newsletter will include the weekly MIP award.  This award commends that athlete who shows the most significant drop in personal performance.

-         Despite the individual nature of cross country as a sport, it is nonetheless a TEAM sport here at the Prep.  All team members are expected to attend all competitions regardless of weather (or any other conditions).  There were at least 17 unexcused no-shows this Saturday.  Any runner who is not prepared to meet these requirements should seriously reconsider his role on the team.
