Spring Track Newsletter                                                                              May 21-27, 1991

Memorial Day weekend brought an end to one of the most triumphant years in the 95-year history of Fordham Prep Track and Field.  A second consecutive victory at the Eagles Invitational, 3 qualifiers for the State Championship Meet, and a 400 Meter Relay team that won the first medals for a Prep team at the City Championships since 1970 – all in one week. For the year, 668 medals were won – 289 in the spring campaign alone – enough to easily surpass last year’s team record. Congratulations to our many fine athletes and their ever-supportive families.

Track Notes

-         Although there were some tremendous performances during this past championship week, the work of one particular Senior stands out. Mike Morales has give us two years of hard work, plenty of speed, and certainly a lot of laughs. The Prep will definitely miss our season-ending MIP.

-         Congratulations to our three qualifiers for the New York State Championships to be held at Kingston’s Dietz Stadium on June 7-8. Tom Gilbride, Brian Etheridge, and Rey Mendez will represent the CHSAA in the High Jump, 400, and 1600 respectively. Best of luck on those fine achievements.

-         Finally, congratulations and thanks go out to all the Prepsters who worked so hard to make the Track and Field program the best interscholastic team at the Prep. The future looks bright mainly due to your efforts.
