Spring Track Newsletter                                                                               May 10-11, 1991

Great competitors thrive on great competition, and many members of the Fordham Track team did just that this weekend. The Frosh/Soph City Championships brought out the best in some fine future Prep stars. Also, the prestigious Loucks Games gave our Varsity athletes a chance to show their true grit. 3 quality medals were won in the face of tough competition.

Track Notes

-         Certainly the BIG STORY has got to be Junior Tom Gilbride’s High Jump of 6’4” – earning him MIP. Among other thing, Tom cleared his PR by 3 inches, jumped above his own height, and fell only 2 inches short of the school record of 6’6” – set in 1976 by Bill Theirfelder – who went on to jump over 7 feet at the University of Maryland. However, Tom was not the only one to improve. The list includes Etheridge (:50.8), Casey (:58.0), Guerrero (58.8), Rodriguez (:62.6), Verlezza (2:24.9), Castillo (5:23), and the Fink brothers in the 1600 Run (4:39 and 5:28). Congrats to all.
