Cross Country Newsletter ‘89                                                           September 23, 1989

Fordham Prep inaugurated it’s 1989 season on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Van Cortlandt Park at the 12th Annual Regis Invitational. Amid the Wind and rain sent north by fading Hurricane Hugo, the largest Prep X-C squad in 10 years brought home top notch early season times. Garnering 19 medals in all, the team is poised to challenge for sectional championships in all three divisions-Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshmen.

XC Notes

* This week’s MIP award goes to Junior John Feerick, who lowered his personal best time by 57 seconds. Congrats, Juan. ( MIP= Most Improved Performance)

* Other upperclassmen running personal records- Jose Garcia, Steve Famularo, Mark Sternefeld, and John Mignone. Juniors Dave Guerrero and Ray Medina were only 3 and 9 seconds off their best times, respectively. Such depth will most certainly aid captains Mike Chang and Kevin Neenan in their quest for a sectional championship.

* Some sterling debuts were made. 13 Freshman were given a not-so-cozy welcome by Van Cortlandt Park, but performed admirably. Upperclass first timers included Hector Cruz, Mark Lozina, Mike Fink, Matt George, Vin Romano, and Carlos Nunez. Welcome aboard.

* In the Sophomore Race, Claude Rossignol, Mike Fink, and Brian Etheridge finished 2nd, 5th, and 7th, respectively. Hade their been a team score officially kept, the Sophs would have finished 2nd only 5 points behind Molloy H.S.
