The Varsity Baseball team advanced to the Championship round of the City double elimination tournament. The team will take on Iona Prep on Friday night at St. John's University. Game time is 7 pm. The Rams will have to defeat Iona twice in order to claim the CHSAA City Championship. If Fordham Prep wins tonight the two teams will play again on Sunday night at 6 pm at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field for the City Championship.

Last night the Varsity Baseball team defeated St. Joseph by the Sea 3-2 in 9 innings in the CHSAA City quarter-finals at Jack Coffey Field. Senior Steve Fondu scored the winning run in the 9th on a wild pitch. Junior Sean McNamara pitched a complete game for the victory. Senior Kevin Flynn had two hits including an RBI triple. The Rams will take on Xaverian tonight at St. John's University at 6:30 pm.

The Varsity Baseball team improved their record to 10-3 with a 10-5 victory over Monsignor Farrell in Staten Island. Senior Steve Fondu went 3-4 and drove in 4 runs. Fellow seniors Andrew Velazquez, Ryan Mahoney and Kevin Flynn had two hits each. Junior Sean McNamara threw a complete game to earn the win for the Prep.

The Varsity Baseball team improved their league record to 8-0 as they scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to defeat St. Raymond's 4-3 last night at Richmond County Stadium in Staten Island. Sean McNamara earned the win pitching a complete game seven-hitter. Vinnie Capone hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the seventh to score Mic Regan from third base with the winning run. Thanks to all the fans and faculty members who traveled out to Staten Island to support the team. The team returns to Staten Island to take on Monsignor Farrell on Wednesday.

The Varsity Baseball team improved their record to 6-0 with a 10-1 defeat of Cardinal Spellman. Senior Steve Fondu threw a complete game 4 hitter, striking out 8 batters. Ryan Mahoney, Zach Leone, Robbie Lynch, and Mic Regan each had 2 rbi's. The team takes on Regis at home this afternoon.

On Sunday May 20th, Fordham Prep Rugby participated in the NJ Cup Tournament in Denville, NJ. Despite tough competition and hard-fought battles in both the u17 and u19 brackets, the Varsity and JV squads were undefeated winning their respective divisions. In only its second year of existence, the FP Rugby team took home two first-place trophies. This Memorial Day weekend the Varsity Team will play in the New York State High School Rugby Championships on Randall's Island, fields 74 & 75. Kickoff times are Sunday, May 27th at 7 pm and on Monday, May 28th at 1 pm. Please come out and cheer for the boys as they work to solidify a New York State ranking among the best rugby programs in the state.

The Prep's Crew Team competed in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia this past weekend. The regatta is the oldest and largest high school competition in the world, and included teams from over 200 high schools from the United States and Canada. While the Prep did not advance any crews to the 6-boat Grand Finals, the weekend proved to be a great success with the bulk of the team stepping up to compete above their natural categories and successfully achieving the best times of the year by far. The next stop for the team will be the Scholastic Rowing Association National Championships in Camden, New Jersey this coming weekend. Both the Varsity and Second Varsity Prep crews have earned bids to the National Championships where they will compete against the best 36 scholastic teams in the United States.

The team traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY this past weekend for the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships, and their results exceeded all expectations. In the premier event, the Men’s Senior Varsity Eigh,t the FP advanced to the Grand Final for the first time in school history, and finished as the 4th fastest high school in New York State. Our Second Varsity Eight, led by John Posca, also advanced to the Grand Final for the first time in school history, and returned to the Prep with Bronze Medals earned in the Grand Final Sunday. On Sunday night, both Varsity crews also received and accepted bids to the Scholastic Rowing Association National Championshipsthanks to their results over the past two weeks. In the Freshman and Novice events, the Novice Eight returned with a Bronze Medal as the third fastest Novice Eight in New York State, and the Freshman had their best race of the year in finishing as the 7th fastest high school crew in New York. Connor Coughlin and John Carroll also doubled up and raced in the Senior Pair Event earning Silver Medals and one of two bids to the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in June. Next week the entire team will race in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia. Congratulations to the entire Prep Crew team on an exceptional weekend of racing.

The Crew Team traveled to Philadelphia on Sunday and competed in the Philadelphia City Championship against the top 70 high school programs in the Philadelphia/New Jersey area. The Men’s Second Varsity Eight led the Prep results with a 5th place finish in the final only 2 seconds out of a Bronze Medal and the Men’s Novice Eight finished the day in 9th place overall after missing qualifying for the Grand Final by one second. The Varsity Eight closed the gap against the fastest crews in the area just missing the 6-boat Grand Final by one second and finishing in 7th place overall. Next week the team returns to Saratoga Springs, NY for the New York State Championships where bids for the Scholastic National Championship and the US Rowing National Championships will also be at stake.

The Crew Team traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY this past weekend to compete in the Saratoga Invitational Regatta. The team battled high winds and rough water conditions to compete in 18 events over two days against 50 of the best high school and club teams in the Eastern United States and Canada. This meet is in preparation for the coming major championship racing in the coming weeks. Our Junior Eight of Connor Coughlin, John Carroll, Teo Viola, Conor McCarrick, Brian Hommel, Garrett Gowan, PJ Anderson, Alex Nowicki and their coxswain Brian Queenan led the Prep results with a solid win over all competitors. Next weekend the team travels to Philadelphia to compete in the Philadelphia City Championships.

The Prep Crew team competed in a season high 7 events at the Mercer Lake Sprints in New Jersey this past Saturday. While the Varsity Eight drew a very difficult heat and just missed advancing to the Grand Final, the Prep Novice Eight of Ryan Grogan, Chris Caro, Alessandro Tagliavia, Dillon LaFata, Steve Neville, John Feerick, Christian Bistany, Matthew Garcia and their coxswain, Andrew Cavallaro won Gold Medals in their event defeating Newport Rowing, Greenwich Crew, Cold Spring Harbor High School, Nutley High School and New York Rowing. The Second Varsity Eight brought home a Silver Medal defeating Iona Prep, Vineland, Lawrenceville, and Greenwich losing only to the home course Mercer Juniors. This coming weekend the team travels to the Saratoga Invitational Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY where they will compete against some of the best US and Canadian High Schools in the East.

The Prep Crew Team competed in the 4th Manny Flick Regatta in Philadelphia this past Sunday. The Varsity Eight won their race defeating McLean High School, Bishop Ireton High School from Virginia and Absegami High School of New Jersey. The second Varsity Eight finished fourth in their event, and the Novice Eight and Freshmen Eights posted second place and sixth place finishes respectively. This coming Saturday the team will compete at the Mercer Sprints Regatta in Princeton, New Jersey.

On Sunday, the Prep Crew team competed in the Manny Flick Regatta Racing Series in Philadelphia. The Varsity Eight finished 3rd behind Oakcrest and Holy Spirit which edged out the Prep by one second. The Novice and Freshman Eights turned in 3rd and 6th place finishes in their first races of the spring, and 2nd Varsity Eight finished a strong 6th in their race. Next Saturday the Crew Team travels to Mays Landing, New Jersey looking to reverse yesterday’s outcome against Holy Spirit when they will compete against 5 of the top teams in the East in the Lake Lenape Invitational Regatta hosted by St. Augustine High School.

The Varsity Eight opened its spring season Saturday with a win at the Lake Lenape Sprints in Mays Landing, New Jersey, defeating Absegami High School and Atlantic City High School. The Novice Eight and the JV Four placed second with the Varsity Four finishing third in their respective events. Also, on Sunday Varsity Eight team member Connor Coughlin traveled to Boston, Massachusetts where he participated in the US Junior National Team Identification Camp placing him one step closer to possibly representing the United States at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria this summer.

Freshman Cameron Young captured the NYSFSSAA Championship at Bethpage Black (par 71) by shooting a 1-over-par 72 finishing first among the 24 best high school golfers in New York State. Cameron shot 33 on the front and 39 on the back.
The top six golfers from each of the four Associations—New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), Public School Athletic League of New York City (PSAL), Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and the Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS)— competed in the 18-hole tournament on 6/10.
The NYS Federation Golf Tournament began in 2001 at Thomas Carvel Country Club in Pine Plains, NY. It was held there for seven years. The tournament was moved to Mark Twain GC in Elmira, NY for 2008 and 2009. Bethpage Black has hosted the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The Golf team captured the 18-hole CHSAA City Championship by defeating St. Peter's of Staten Island. The team has won four of the last five championships, and seven in the last 15 years. The scores were Cameron Young (5&3), Jackson Zepf (7&6), Zenon Bishop (5&4), Garrett Weir (8&7) and James Corrigan (3 up with 4 to play).

The Golf team advanced to the city championship by defeating Monsignor Farrell, and will play St. Peter's of Staten Island this week for the title. This is Fordham Prep's 7th straight trip to the finals.

The Golf team moved on to the semi-final round of the city championship by defeating Archbishop Stepinac in the quarter-final round of the playoffs. Fordham will play Monsignor Farrell on Thursday 5/24 at Winged Foot GC.

The team completed a 12-0 undefeated season by defeating Stepinac 4-0-1. Freshman Cameron Young led the Rams with a 1-under-par 35 at the Westchester Hills GC. The 2012 Fordham golfers posted an extraordinary individual match record of 58 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties. City playoffs begin next week.

DeLasho is coming off a strong summer for the Prime Time 2014 travel team.
“He dominated for that team and made the all-star team at the King of the HIll camp and he also was an all-star at Blue Chip 225,” PT Director Nick Daniello said.

In a come-from-behind win in overtime, Varsity Lacrosse rallied from a 9-5 deficit to beat Catholic League rival Iona Prep yesterday. This marks the fourth victory in a row over Iona Prep. Ben Andreycak tallied 8 points including 5 goals, and Conor Gowan made 22 stops that included some spectacular one-on-one saves to keep the Rams alive in OT. Rob Grinnell and Connor Smith rounded out the offense with Grinnell scoring the winning goal less than two minutes into OT.

The Varsity Rugby team finished its season yesterday, capturing the 1st place trophy in the Second Tier (2nd Division) of the High School Championship Tournament. The team defeated Canisius HS 39-17 on Sunday, and then beat the Pittsford Rugby Club 60-5 yesterday. The 2nd Division Championship means the FP Varsity team finished the season with a #5 finish overall in NY State.

After its first full year as a recognized program, the team made the NY State Rugby Championship by beating Xavier II on Saturday May 12 at Randall's Island 43-19. The following day the team played an intense match against Keio College on the Manhattanville Campus and were narrowly defeated 21-15. This puts the team in tier II for the championships on May 27th and 28th to be played on Randall's Island.

After a hard fought match against Xavier earlier today, Fordham Prep Rugby has advanced to the New York State Championship with a 43-21 victory. The team played with all the determination and energy they could muster for the win.
Tomorrow at 11 am at Manhattanville College (Sunday 5/13), they play for their seeding for the State Championship.

Both Varsity teams had decisive victories at home yesterday against NY Rugby Club. In their second league game of the season, the B side won 15 – 5 with a solid three-tries-to-one victory. The A side scored 6 tries and ended the game with the opposition unable to break through “The Fordham Wall” – superb defensive work by the Prep and a decisive 40-0 win!! The Varsity will play Keio at Manhattanville College this Wednesday afternoon.

Fordham Prep Rugby played their first league game yesterday versus New Rochelle. In a convincing display of power and athleticism, the Varsity won 37-7. The JV squad posted a shutout with a score of 22-0. First home game is this Sunday at Murphy Field at noon.

Current sophomore and Prep swimmer Patrick Conaton made his Olympic Trial cut in the 200 backstroke this past weekend. He will be traveling to Omaha, Nebraska in a few weeks to compete for a spot on the United States Olympic team this summer in London.

The Varsity team defeated Iona Prep 3-2 yesterday at the United States Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens to win the New York City CHSAA "A" Championship. The double-teams of Dylan Breuning, Alex Parisi, George Daily and Dan Neeson won straight set matches. Andrew Hauser carried the day with his timely 6-2, 7-5 victory in a pressure filled third singles match.

On Saturday the Track & Field team took 2nd place out of 16 teams at the Archdiocesan Championship. The Prep had 3 individual Champions, all underclassmen: Sean McEvoy (Pole Vault), Gus Menocal (Discus) and Mike Goldstock in the Javelin. Other scorers included Lucas Gilbride, Dan Kaul and Brendan Beyer in the Pole Vault; James Scanlon, Pete Ciaccia and John Junior in the Javelin, and Mike Lester in the Shot Put. The Prep continued its dominance in the hurdles, taking 3 of the top 4 places with Christian Doherty, Eric Kim and Pablo Morel. Senior Greg Martin scored in the 2 mile run and Freshman Joe Prunty set a new Prep freshman record in the same race. J.R. DeBard ran the Prep's fastest mile of the year in 4 minutes 37 seconds, and the all-senior one mile relay of Chris Reggio, Lucas Keefer, Mike Cibelli and Dennis Kennelly ran one of the league's fastest times of the year. Congrats on a great day at the Sectionals.

The Sophs took the 3rd place plaque at the 35-team CHSAA Soph Championship this weekend led by Discus City Champion Gus Menocal, Hurdle champion Pablo Morel and Pole Vault Champion James Deutmeyer. All 3 also medaled in other events. Franklin Newton ran the 800 in 2 minutes flat to take 4th, Terence Corbett took 2nd in the Javelin, Joe Reitano was 2nd in the High Jump, Kyle Thomas was 5th in the Triple Jump and Coleman Kraemer placed 3rd in the Pole Vault.
The Freshman placed 4th at the 35-team CHSAA Championship led by Steeplechase City Champion Joe Prunty and silver medalists Paul McGovern in the 800 run and Kyle Guzman in the 400 hurdles. Other medalists included Zach Kumar in the 100 meter dash, Tom Annunziata in the Shot Put, Patrick Young in the High Jump, John Calanadra and David Ojeda in the Javelin, and Tristan Connors, Devin Crichlow and Jared Gorman in the 4x100 Relay.
At this weekend's Loucks Games, Lucas Keefer ran the 800 meter run in 1 minute 56 seconds. This is the fastest time run in the New York archdiocese this season. JJ Scanlon placed 7th in the Javelin with a 152 foot throw, Lucas Gilbride was 8th in the Pole Vault, clearing 13 feet, and Dennis Kennelly ran 23.1 seconds in the 200 meters.

Yesterday the Sophomore Track & Field team won the NY Archdiocesan Championship defeating 12 other teams at Farrell HS in Staten Island. Pablo Morel won both hurdle events and Gustave Menocal won the Discus breaking a 15 year-old school sophomore record. Terence Corbett launched the Javelin 153 feet for the win, and Joe Reitano took 3rd in the 400 meters, Franklin Newton placed 2nd in the 800 and Jonathan Calvello took silver in both the mile and 2 mile runs. Tom Preite placed 2nd in the Long Jump, James Deutmeyer took 2nd in the Pole Vault and James Ciaccia took the bronze in the Javelin. Solid relay performances from many sophs including Chris DeMarco helped seal the win. The Freshman team placed 3rd on the strength of gold medals by Joe Prunty and Paul McGovern in the 2 mile and 800 runs, and by Kyle Guzman, Pat Young, Tristan Connors and Robert Burd in the 2 mile relay. Arnulfo Polonia, John Calandra and David Ojeda dominated the Javelin and the 4x400 Relay taking silver medals.

On Tuesday, the Prep took 2nd in the Novice and 4th in Weight Division championships out of 15 teams in attendance. Gold Medalists included the Junior 4 by 800 meter relay of Christian Roodal, Pat Curley, Tom Arlotta and Danny Fink. Freshman Joe Prunty won the 800m run, Patrick Young won the High Jump, and the freshman 4 by 800 relay of Prunty, Young, Robert Burd, Pat Young and Paul McGovern also took gold. Kyle Guzman won a tactical 2 mile run. In the throwing events, Sophomore Jeff Paredes broke 100 feet in the Discus to take 2nd and Freshman John Calandra took 3rd in the Javelin with a 115 foot toss. The team will take on Regis and Xavier in the 68th annual Jesuit Championships on Saturday at Mount St. Michael HS at 3 pm.

Their were many top performances at the recent meet at Randall's Island. Freshman throwers Tom Annunziata, Nufo Polonia and David Ojeda swept the Shot Put, Javelin and Discus respectively. James Ball won the Freshman Pole Vault; Patrick Young won an exciting Freshman 800 meter run. Spencer Lee-Ray won both the Sophomore Shot Put and Discus; John Junior won the Varsity Javelin. Frosh DMR of Paul McGovern, Zach Kumar, Tristan Connors, Joe Prunty set new meet record (8:18.2) in an exciting race over Xavier HS. Soph 4x800 of Greg O'Connell, Alec Rescigno, Jonathan Calvello and Franklin Newton came from behind to take 2nd place. Chris Angelo took 3rd in Steeplechase.

Christian Doherty won the 110HH, Lucas Keefer ran 51.9 in the 400, and Dan Kaul and Sean McEvoy pole vaulted 13'0". Pablo Morel 16.9 won 110HH, Spencer Lee-Ray won Soph Shot Put, Paul McGovern won an exciting Frosh 800m. Joe Prunty won Frosh 2000m Steeplechase in 7:02.5.

With a convincing 3-0 shutout of Iona Prep yesterday, the Varsity Volleyball team won their third straight league match in the top division of the CHSAA Volleyball League, and in the process clinched home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Following up on 3-0 and 3-1 wins against St. Joseph's By the Sea and Xavarian High School, respectively; the Volleyball Rams won all three sets yesterday 25-9, 25-19, 25-23.
Congratulations to the Volleyball team for their 3-1 victory against Iona Prep. The team was anchored by Joe Savino, Tom Milisits, Brian O'Rourke, Tomasz Przywarczak, Stefan Palylyk, Mike Gallager, Tony Pacitto and Andrew O'Grady. The team takes on Salesian tomorrow and Spellman on Friday.
