FORDHAM PREP GOLF TEAM

The Fordham Prep Golf Team is a member of the CHSAA (Catholic High School Athletic Association). Golf is also a New York State Federation sport and participates in a state-wide tournament in June. The New York City Catholic golf league consists of 20 teams and three divisions. Each team plays 10-12 league matches. The season begins on March 2008 and runs through June 2008.

The golf team traveled during the 2001 Easter vacation to Puerto Rico where our golfers stayed at the Hyatt and played the Dorado (east) and Cerromar (north + south) courses. The Fordham Prep Golf Team has also traveled to New Orleans in 1997 to participate in a Jesuit Golf Tournament and the Republic of Ireland in 1998 and 2006 for some great links experience. We traveled to California in the Spring of 2007 to play Pebble Beach and other Monterey Peninsula courses.

#1. The Fordham Prep Varsity Golf Team began the season by defeating Stepinac by the score of 5-0. The match was played at Westchester Hills GC, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(40) 5up, John Hough(41) 5 up, Paul Toohey(42) 3&2, Teddy Morrissey(40) 5&3, and Greg Carpiniello(51) 4&3. Renza and Morrissey led the Rams with 4-over par 40s. The team record now stands at 1-0.

#2. The Fordham Prep Varsity Golf Team defeated St. Ray's by the score of 5-0. The match was played at Mosholu GC, par 32. The scores were Jon Renza(35) 5&3, John Hough(35) 4&2, Teddy Morrissey(36) forfeit, Paul Toohey(34) 5&3, and David Bush(40) 4&3. The Rams were led by Paul Toohey's 2-over par 34. The team record now stands at 2-0.

#3. The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated Mt. St. Michael's by the score of 5-0. The match was played at Winged Foot GC, West Course, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(39) 5&4, John Hough(44) 4&3, Teddy Morrissey(38) 5&4, Paul Toohey(37) 5&4, and David Bush(45) forfeit. The Rams were led by Paul Toohey's 1-over par 37. The team record now stands at 3-0.

#4. The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated Iona Prep by the score of 3-2. The match was played at Pelham CC, par 35. The scores were Jon Renza(41), John Hough(40) 2 up, Paul Toohey(37) 3&2, Teddy Morrissey(41), and David Bush(43) 4&2. The Rams were led once again by Paul Toohey's 2-over par 37. The team record now stands at 4-0.

#5. The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated Salesian by the score of 5-0. The match was played at St. Andrew's GC, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(37) 5up, Paul Toohey(40) 1 up, John Hough(35) 4&2 , Teddy Morrissey(39) 5up, and Rory Mulcahy(41) 5&3. The Rams were led by the resurgent John Hough with a one-under par 35. The team record now stands at 5-0.

#6 The Fordham Rams defeated visiting Xavier HS by the score of 4.5 to .5; the match was played at Winged Foot GC, East(par 37). The scores were John Renza(39) 4&2, Paul Toohey(39) 3&1, John Hough(39) 4&3, Teddy Morrissey(40) 3&2, and Rory Mulcahy(48) all even after 9. Fordham's season record now stands at 6-0.

#7. The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated Salesian by the score of 5-0. The match was played at Pelham Bay GC, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(36) 5up, Paul Toohey(35) 5 up, John Hough(35) 3&1 , Teddy Morrissey(37) 4&3, and David Bush(41) 5up. The Rams were led by the Paul Toohey and John Hough who both shot one-under par 35s. The team record now stands at 7-0.

#8. The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated Mt. St. Michael's by the score of 5-0. The match was played at Pelham Bay GC, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(36) 5up, Paul Toohey(35) 5 up, John Hough(35) 3&1 , Teddy Morrissey(37) 5up, and David Bush(41) 5up. The Rams were led by the Paul Toohey and John Hough who both shot one-under par 35s. The team record now stands at 8-0.

#10. The Fordham Prep Varsity Golf Team defeated Stepinac by the score of 4-1. The match was played at Winged Foot GC, par 37. The scores were Jon Renza(39) 5&3, Paul Toohey(43), John Hough(40) 4&2, Teddy Morrissey(37) 3&2, and David Bush(45) 4&3. Teddy Morrissey led the Rams with an even par 37. The team record now stands at 10-0.

#11 The Fordham Prep Golf team suffered its first loss of the season 1.5-3.5 despite shooting a 198 aggregate in the process. The match was played at St. Andrew's GC, par 36. The scores were Jon Renza(40), Paul Toohey(38) 3&1, John Hough(39), Teddy Morrissey(39), and David Bush(40) halved. The team record now stands at 10-1.

#12 The Fordham Prep Golf Team lost to Rye HS by the score of 1-4. The match was played at Winged Foot GC, east course, par 37. The scores were Jon Renza(39), Paul Toohey(46), John Hough(40) 1 up, Teddy Morrissey(42), and David Bush(43). The team record now stands at 10-2.

#13 The Fordham Prep Golf Team defeated St. Francis Prep 5-0 in a CHSAA Quarter-Final playoff match held at Pelham Bay GC. The scores were Jon Renza(2up), Paul Toohey(3&2), John Hough(4&2), Teddy Morrissey(1up), and Davis Bush(1up).

#14 The Fordham Prep Golf Team advanced to the CHSAA Championship Match for the third-straight year by defeating St. Joseph's by the Sea 3-2. The match was played at Pelham Bay GC, par 36. The scores were John Renza(2&1), Paul Toohey(1up 4th extra hole), John Hough (loss 3&2), Teddy Morrissey(3&2), and David Bush(loss 1up 10th hole). Fordham's record for the year now stands at 12-2. The CHSAA CHAMPIONSHIP match will be played at Waccabuc CC on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 against Iona Prep.

#15 The Fordham Prep Varsity Golf Team captured the CHSAA CHAMPIONSHIP for 2008 by defeating Iona Prep 3-2 in a tough 18 hole match played at Waccabuc CC. The results were Jon Renza(loss 2&1), Paul Toohey(2 up), John Hough(6&5), Teddy Morrissey(5&4), and David Bush(loss 4&3). The Championship marks Fordham Prep's fourth CHSAA Championship in five appearance in the eleven years they have been members of the golf league. Congratulations to all the players for a superb season. The final team record for season is 13-2.
