Brooklyn Prep Centennial Dinner - Brooklyn Marriott Hotel - October 11, 2008 On October 11, 2008 Brooklyn Prep celebrated what would have been it’s 100th birthday. The party was attended by 500. This included 168 women and 20 Jesuits. Eight- hundred and fifty alumni donated to the endowment and were listed in the “Last Brooklyn Prep Yearbook” which was distributed to all who attended and mailed to contributors who did not attend. A copy of the "Last Brooklyn Prep Yearbook" is available by going to the heading Bookstore and clicking on "Last Yearbook". Every Jesuit who attended received a copy of Bob Bennett’s new book,” In the Ring”, with a personal note from Bob.
The most impressive part of the evening was the talks that were given by Fr. Ken Boller S.J., President of Fordham Prep, John Sexton '59. President of NYU, Fr. Joe McShane S.J., President of Fordham University and Bob Bennett '57, Partner- Skadden, Arps, Slate and Flom, LLP.
Fifty-eight of our Alumni have bequests in place or are in the process of putting one in place. Their generosity will have a significant effect on the Endowment Fund going forward. To learn more about this form of giving please go to Alumni/Ways of Giving.
Fr. Jack Alexander SJ is the reason we are celebrating the success of the Brooklyn Prep Alumni Association on the occasion of the Prep's 100th birthday. He served in a dedicated manner for 30 years, personally replying to all donations and correspondence. This thoughtful, personal touch is the single most important reason for our success.
Fr. Jack was born July 23, 1923 in Jersey City; he graduated from St. Peter's Prep. He was ordained June 19, 1954 by Cardinal Spellman at Fordham University. From 1956- 1967 he taught English, Latin and Religion at Brooklyn Prep and served as Headmaster from 1967 until the school closed in 1972. Fr. Jack taught Religion at Xavier High School form 1973-1983 and became Moderator of the Brooklyn Prep Alumni Association in 1978. He is now our Chaplain and is in residence at Loyola Hall at Fordham University.
Words are inadequate to express our thanks to this Jesuit who only thinks of others.
