Frosh excel, win, grow!

September 11, 1999
Senior Chris Van Metter cracked the top 50 all time Prep Cross Country times and helped the Prep edge out Xavier 57-61 in the CHSAA Practice Meet.  Many other Prep runners showed big improvements, pointing the way toward a prosperous season.  New faces helped the Frosh look even more impressive as they handled Regis by 6 points for another victory.

Cross Country Notes
Senior Adrian Clarke got more than he bargained for when he came out for XC as a way to get in shape for indoors and the pole vault.  He ran his way right on to the Varsity 7. You never know when it all comes together.  Congrats to the MIP  (Most Improved Performer) .  Special mention to the Frosh for some monster PRs and to the many upperclassmen who did the same.

Scoring a Cross Country Meet:

Is simple.  Usually, a team is made up of 7 competitors.  In scoring, each team adds the finish places of their top 5 finishers.  Thus, the lowest score wins.  In case of a tie, the team with the lowest 6th place finisher wins. 7th place ( and lower, if a meet agrees to have unlimited team members) also plays an important role, as he might finish ahead of another team's 5th place finisher, thus increasing that competitors' score.

Example: 9/3/99 Xavier-Fordham
Fordham 2-3-7-8-11 = 31 (6th finisher was 12th place)
Xavier 1-5-6-9-10 = 31  (6th finisher was 16th place)
