Indoor
Track Newsletter December 4, 1993
The
44th Annual International Relay Carnival took on added emotional
significance this year as it was held in the newly renovated and reopened 168th
Street Armory. Once the hallowed home
of New York City High School Indoor Track, it proudly reassumed that role this
weekend. The Fordham Prep Track Team
did not fail to take advantage of the occasion as they won 25 medals and
quickly established themselves as league contenders in every category.

- The MIP Award (Most Improved Performer) is awarded
weekly by this newsletter to the athlete who shows the most significant
improvement in personal performance. It
should be noted that many who ran their best this weekend do not have a “PR”
(personal record) newt to their name simply because this was the first official
meet of the season. Practice times
don’t count.
- Traditionally, the MIP of the Relay Carnival is
appropriately awarded to entire relay – this year being no exception. So the Varsity Distance Medley of John
Verlezza, Ashley Saunders, Andy Hinman, and Anthony Batista is the obvious
choice. Still, fine personal bests were
turned in by Senior Mike Casey, Junior Josh Waldman, and Sophomores Weitzman,
Fitzsimons, Cocheekaran, Cardosa, Lippiello, Moore, and Hurley to name a
few. Freshmen Moroney and Young
continued to improve.
- A special welcome to all new runners; you are now
part of a long and storied history at the Prep- we are confident that you will
significantly augment that history.
